Sharing the gospel and reaching out is one of our challenging callings as Christians. We may feel fearful as we do not know the response, especially if the person rejects it. On the other hand, we may not know how to share the gospel. These reasons can make it challenging to reach out and share the gospel with others.
Yet we are called to share the gospel to the lost through our word (proclamation) and works (demonstration) (Matt. 28:18-20).
In our church’s Vision 2028, we want to focus on 3 core areas (1. Greater prayerfulness, 2. More caring and connected community, 3. More prevalent disciple-making) and 3 strategic areas (1. Phygital church, 2. Urgent local outreach, 3. Leadership revitalization) from January 2023 - January 2028.
This year, the focus is Community in the first half of the year and Outreach in the second half.
As we step into July, the focus on Outreach is an effort by the church to help us be aware of sharing the gospel collectively. I remembered when I was a young teenager, my home church would organise going out in groups to give gospel tracts and share the gospel with whoever responded to the tracts. It was daunting to approach strangers but doing it together as a group eased some of those apprehensions. I believe some of you have this experience too.
Therefore, I would like to encourage you to join in the outreach efforts the church has planned. There are various reasons to do it together.
Partnering together
Paul was never a lone ranger in his missionary endeavours. He consistently partnered with others, for example, with Timothy and the Christians in Philippi, and this brought him much joy despite the various challenges he faced (Phil.1:3-5). Likewise, as mentioned, it can be quite challenging to share the gospel alone. Partnering with others can give us the support to press on when facing challenges.
Learning together
As the church curates various outreach events, pastoral staff will guide and provide training. If you do not know how to, this is an opportunity for you to grow and learn. There will be other Christians to help and assist you during the training.
Testimony through our fellowship (glorifying God)
June was our intergenerational month and for CGs, there was an intergenerational activity, in which two different generations of CGs came together for a meeting. Many CGs benefited from connecting and interacting with CGs of a different generation. When we fellowship, love one another and grow spiritually together, we bear testimony and others will know we belong to Christ (John 13:35).
