Week 11 (13 Mar) Day 4

Matthew 7.7-11

7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

9 “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone?

10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! 12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

Personal Reflections We are told to ask, seek and knock. Triple emphasis here. For after all, our heavenly father would never deprive us of that which is good for us. Surely, he would fare better, much better than earthly fathers in providing for their children. Yet the operative phrase is “give good gifts” (Mt 7.11). What we think is good for us may not really be truly good for us in God’s divine wisdom. Nonetheless, we should ask of God; then trust Him to give or not give, according to his wisdom and for our own good.

Ask! Ask of the Lord what is good for you and let him give to you what the Father knows best. What are your needs, desires and yearnings and what would you ask of God today?
