Matthew 5.10
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Personal Reflections The pursuit of righteousness often attracts attacks and challenges. While we do not actively seek such opposition, often it becomes inevitable. The verse encourages us to take heart and know that we are assured of the kingdom of heaven, where God rules nonetheless, in the here and now. We are promised God’s abiding presence even now when we face opposition.
However, one needs to note that this is different from “persecutions not due to righteousness.” These are often due to our own folly, arrogance or wrongdoings, which yield their own consequences. As Christians, we are called instead to live responsibly and worthy of God’s calling. If you are encountering persecution, consider honestly if it is indeed due to the pursuit of righteousness or not.
