Matthew 5.13
13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
Personal Reflections There are numerous possible uses of salt in the ancient world (at least 11, as listed by one author). The most common understanding is that salt is used for flavouring and preservation of food. The idea is that disciples are to be like salt – to provide flavouring (making a difference) to the world by preventing corruption.
Of course, many of us would have encountered Christians who are indeed different, but unfortunately in a negative way, which turns others away from the gospel. In what ways are you positively different in your values and lifestyle as compared to the people among whom you are placed to influence?
